The Dean wanted an "umbrella" organization that would be a representative voice for all organizations- a way for pharmacy students to unite and have a place among the professions. Students need to discuss what purpose this organization should have in order achieve this goal and how it can be realized. Any suggestions?

I understand the ideals behind having an organization like this, but what exactly would this group DO. It seems like an added waste of resources and time.

I feel like Pharmacy Council already serves this role in representing all of the organizations.

The umbrella organization is supposed to be an organization that represents the profession of pharmacy as a whole. This is actually supposed to be the role of APhA. The Dean feels that APhA as a whole, does not do the best job at representing the pharmacy profession as a whole. Some of the "head honchos" of APhA have special intrests in mind which causes some fields of pharmacy to be very well represented through APhA and other fields of pharmacy to be poorly represented. I think its better to "fix" APhA, which is a well established organization already. Here are a few questions that we can think about. Is it better to start fixing from the student level and work up to the professional level, or is it better to work from the professional level down? What exactly is the problem with APhA? Who do we go to with the fruits of our brainstorming to get our ideas heard? Honestly, I will have to wait until the end of this semester to take real action because school is pretty intense right now.

I found the comments the more interesting than the news itself. This site has some very clever readers.
